First Generation

 

1.  Thomas MONK. Born about 1748 in Horley, Surrey and died in August 1831 in Worth, Sussex, being buried there on 24/8/1831.
 

Thomas married Susan, probably in Worth, date unknown.  They had the following children, all baptized in Worth:
 

(1) Mary, baptized 24/3/1771.  (2) Thomas, baptized 22/11/1772.  On  17/4/1795, when Thomas was age about 22, he married Ann BANNISTER in Worth. (3) John, baptized 20/10/1782.  (4) William, baptized 21/5/1786.  (5) James, baptized 20/4/1788.  (6) Matthew [2].  (7) Ann, baptized 27/11/1791.

 

 

Second Generation

 

2.   Matthew MONK [Parents].  Baptized 18/4/1790 in Worth, Sussex and died 13/3/1866 in Halling.  Matthew was buried 18/3/1866 in Halling.
 

Around 1816-1817, Matthew married Sarah BEARD. Sarah was born about 1795 in Lingfield, Sussex and died 3/5/1866 in Halling, where she was buried on 8/5/1866.
 

They had the following children:

 

(1) Mary, baptized 15/2/1818 in Mertsham, Surrey.  (2) Amy, baptized 16/6/1819 in Mertsham.  (3) James [3].  (4) William [4].  (5) Thomas [5].

George, baptized 9/1/1825 in Halling.  (7) Susanna, baptized 29/10/1826 in Halling.  (8) Sarah, baptized 3/2/1828 in Halling.  (9) Matthew [6].

John, baptized 24/4/1831 in Halling.  (11) Amy, baptized 5/5/1833 in Halling.  (12) Alfred [7].  (13) Louisa, baptized 30/6/1839 in Halling.

Third Generation

 

3.   James MONK [Parents].  Baptized 28/1/1821 in Merstham, Surrey. It is not known when James died.
 

Around 1842-1843, James married Susan (maiden name unknown).  They had the following children, all baptized in Halling:
 

(1) William Thomas, baptized 2/6/1844.  (2) Martha, baptized 28/6/1846. On 7/10/1866, when Martha was age 20, she married James ROOTS at St Nicholas Church, Strood.  (3) Sarah, baptized 5/11/1848.  (4) Susan, baptized 16/2/1851.  (5) Mary Amelia, baptized 29/8/1852.  (6) Amelia, baptized 18/3/1855.  On 28/6/1874, when Amelia was age 19, she married William MAYATT in Strood.  (7) Louisa, baptized 1/11/1857.  (8) James, baptized 15/4/1860.  (9) Matthew, baptized 6/7/1862.

 

 

4.   William MONK [Parents]. Baptized 28/4/1822 in Halling, Kent, it is not known when William died but it is assumed it was between 1871 and early 1881 (he does not appear in the 1881 census). Occupation: Master of a vessel.
 

Around 1845/1846, William married Caroline FEIST.  Born about 1832, Caroline died 25/2/1849 age 17.
 

They had the following child:

 

(1) Albert [8].
 

About 1851, William married Mahalah Sarah SMITH who was born around 1824 in March, Cambridgeshire.  Mahala died in the quarter ending September 1889 in Medway, Kent.

 

They had the following children:

 

(1) Thomas [9].  (2) Matthew, born 1854 and died quarter ending December 1857, both events in Halling. Matthew was buried on 29/11/1857 at St John the Baptist Church, Halling.  (3) Caroline, born about June 1856 and died quarter ending December 1857 in Halling. Caroline was buried on 8/11/1857 at St John the Baptist Church, Halling.  (4) John William [10].

 

5.   Thomas MONK [Parents].  Baptized 28/9/1823 in Halling, Kent, Thomas died in the quarter ending June 1883 in Alverstoke, Hampshire, age about 60.  Occupation: Seaman, Royal Navy.
 

About 1857/1858, Thomas married Mary (maiden name unknown) who was born about 1822 in Horsham, Sussex. Mary died in the quarter ending December 1863 in Portsea, Hampshire, age about 41.
 

They had the following child:

 

(1) George Thomas [11].
 

In the quarter ending June 1865, when Thomas was age about 42, he married Mary BENGER in Portsea. Mary was born about 1835 in Marden, Wiltshire.
 

They had the following children:

 

(1) Alfred Edward, born quarter ending June 1866 in Portsmouth.  (2) Frederick John, born about 1868 in Gosport.  (3) Edwin Ernest, born about 1872 in Gosport.  In the quarter ending September 1900, when Edwin was age about 27, he married Elizabeth Odom SARTIN, daughter of John SARTIN and Susan Ann RICHER.  Elizabeth was born quarter ending June 1879 in Whittlesea, Cambridgeshire.  (4) Edith Clara, born quarter ending June 1874 in Gosport.

 

6.   Matthew MONK [Parents].  Baptized 1/2/1829 in Halling, Kent.  It is not known when Matthew died but it was after the 1901 census. Occupation: Variously given in census returns as Labourer, Wharf Manager, Clerk to Slate Merchant, Commercial Traveller.
 

About 1858, when Matthew was age about 29, he married Mary Ann (maiden name unknown).  She was born about 1834 in Cooling, Kent.

 

They had the following children:

 

(1) Ellen, born quarter ending September 1859 in Halling.  (2) Agnes, born quarter ending June 1861 in Westminster, London.  (3) Matthew [12].  (4) Emily, born about 1865 in Westminster.  (5) George, born quarter ending June 1867 in Westminster.  (6) James Edward, born quarter ending March 1871 and died quarter ending December 1871, both events in Westminster.  (7) Edwin, born quarter ending March 1873 in Pimlico, London.  (8) Albert, born about 1877 in Pimlico.

 

7.   Alfred MONK [Parents]. Baptized 14/6/1835 in Halling, Kent.  It is not known when Alfred died. Occupation: Variously given in census returns as an Engine Driver at Cement Works, Cement Labourer and Stationary Engine Driver.

 

Around 1860/1861, when Alfred was age about 25, he married Jane PARRIS, daughter of James PARRIS and Mary Ann HARRIS. Born 1839 in Halling, Jane died quarter ending December 1880 also in Halling, age 41.
 

They had the following children, all born or baptized in Hallling:

 

(1) Alfred [13].  (2) Sarah Ann, baptized 17/5/1863.  (3) James, baptized 5/2/1865. In the quarter ending September 1895, when James was age 30, he married Ellen FLETCHER in Westminster.  (4) Alice, baptized 21/4/1867 .  (5) Agnes, born quarter ending December 1870.  In 1895, when Agnes was age 25, she married Alfred DOWSETT in Strood.
