Herbert Henry died 27/6/1942 in the City Hospital, St Albans, age 46. Cause of death certified as Peritonitis, perforated ulcer, intestinal obstruction. Herbert was buried in Hatfield Road cemetery, St Albans.  Occupation: Ironmonger’s assistant (1911); House decorator (1921); Commercial traveller (1922); Leading storeman non- ferrous metals (munitions) (1939); Meter reader for electricity company (1942). Served in France 9/3/1915-19/3/1919 (Royal Engineers). The birth certificate records Herbert Henry.  His marriage and death certificates, and cemetery record, show Henry Herbert. The reason for the switch is unknown; perhaps he simply preferred Henry to Herbert. There’s another possible explanation. Herbert's aunt, Jane Elizabeth Jones married Henry Harris. His brother (so Jane's brother in law), born about 1868, was Herbert Harris. There’s evidence in the 1901 census that Herbert Jones was brought up by Jane and Henry after his mother died. He may have been known as Henry to avoid confusion with Herbert Harris. In addition, Henry Harris had a nephew, Herbert Leslie Harris, born 1900. Maybe it was a case of one too many Herberts. On 11/2/1922 when Herbert Henry was age 26, he married Doris Esther HARRIS , daughter of Frederick George HARRIS and Esther Rose BURRIDGE , in Holy Trinity Church, Penge. Born on 1/8/1892 in St Albans, Doris Esther died 7/1/1968 in Peacehaven, Sussex, age 75. They had the following children: (1) Betty Doris [ 13 ] . (2). Peter Leslie [ 14 ] . (3) Terence Frank , born 4/7/1928 in Lewisham and died 18/11/2022 in Colwyn Bay, Conwy, age 94.
