48. Samuel CHAPPLE [ Parents ]. Born 29/7/1798 in Colyton and baptized there 12/8/1798. Samuel died 31/3/1870 in Axminster, age 71. Occupation: Shoemaker. On 26/9/1836, when Samuel was age 36, he married Mary Ann SAMPSON in Axmouth, Devon. Born about 1816, it’s not known when Mary Ann died. They had the following children: (1) Henry [ 60 ] .  (2) Frederick Stone [ 61 ] . 49. James CHAPPLE [ Parents ]. Baptized 9/7/1797 in Musbury and died 1877, age 79. Occupation: Cordwainer. In 1821, when James was age about 23, he married Mary MINIFIE . Born 1798 in Salcombe Regis, Mary died 1885, age 87. They had the following children: (1) Charles Hardy [ 62 ] . (2) Ann , born 17/12/1825 in Membury and baptized 15/1/1826 in Stockland. Ann died October 1847 in Axminster, age 21, and was buried 17/10/1847 in Membury. (3) Silas [ 63 ] . (4) Tabitha , baptized 27/8/1828 in Seaton and Beer. (5) Absalom [ 64 ] . (6) Henry , born about July 1831 in Membury and baptized there 7/12/1831. Henry died in February 1832, age 7 months, and was buried in Membury 5/2/1832. (7) Theophilus [ 65 ] . (8) Thirza , baptized 29/5/1835 in Seaton and Beer. (9) William Minifye [ 66 ] . 50. William CHAPPLE [ Parents ]. Born 1795 in Axminster, William died 1867 in Tiverton, age 72. Occupation: Yeoman farmer. On 9/4/1825, when William was 29, he married Sarah COLE , daughter of George COLE and Elizabeth GODWIN , in Bristol. Sarah was born 1786 in Bristol. They had the following children, all born Tiverton: (1) Sarah Ellen Cole , born in 1827. Sarah Ellen Cole died 1892 in Tiverton, age 65. (2) John Cole [ 67 ] . (3) William , born 1830. William died 22/10/1853 in Tiverton, age 23. (4) Emma , born 1833. Emma married William GLENDINING , born 1819 in Tiverton. (5) James , born 1835. (6) Robert , born 1837. (7) Francis , born 1839. Francis died 13/1/1840 in Tiverton. (8) Mary , born 1841. 51. James Cole CHAPPLE [ Parents ]. Baptized 24/9/1797 in Axminster, James died in June 1862 in St Thomas, Devon, age 64, and was buried there 10/6/1862. Occupation: Superintendent of Excise. On 2/5/1836, when James was age about 38, he married Mary BEVEN at Holy Trinity Church, Exeter. It’s not known when Mary was born or died. They had the following children: (1) Maria , born about 1837 in Alloa, Scotland. (2) Walter [ 68 ] . (3) Blanch , born about 1846 in Crediton. (4) Rose , born about 1847 in Exeter. In 1848, when James Cole was age about 51, he married Mary Kerslake BURDGE in Exeter. Mary was born about 1828  in Taunton and died 1922 in Exeter, age about 94. They had the following children, all born Exeter: (1) Eugene , born 1850 and died 26/9/1924 in Queensland, Australia, age 74. (2) Maud , born about 1851. (3) Dora Louise , born 1853 and died 1928 in Medway, Kent. In 1878, when Dora was age about 25, she married Ernest Henry EAMES (1856-1939) in Medway. (4) Garth [ 69 ] . (5) Ruth , born 1856 and died 1908 in Bideford, age 51. In 1892, when Ruth was age 35, she married Andrew PENNINGTON (1852-1929) in Exeter. (6) Percy , born 1858. (7) Ernest Raymond , born 1862 and died 1893 in Dartford, Kent, age 30. On 4/4/1893, when Ernest was age 30, he married Alice Maria BUTLER (1869-1955) in St Matthias, Stoke Newington, London. 52. Robert CHAPPLE [ Parents ]. Born 15/4/1799 in Axminster, Robert died there 1/11/1859, age 60. He was buried 6/11/1859 in Membury. On 27/6/1816, when Robert was 17, he married Mary WHITE , in Axminster. Born 1789 in Axminster, Mary died there 19/1/1868, age 79, and was buried 26/1/1868 in Membury. They had the following children: (1) Robert [ 70 ] . (2) Mary Ann , born 1821. Mary Ann died 19/11/1877 in Axminster, age 56, and was buried there 21/11/1877. 53. Edwin CHAPPLE [ Parents ]. Born 20/2/1828 in Axminster, Edwin died 4/11/1894, age 66, and was buried 10/11/1894 in Kilmington. Occupation: Bank manager. An entry in the National Probate Calendar reads: “CHAPPLE Edwin of Axminster Devon gentleman died 4 November 1894 Probate Exeter 28 November [1895] to Sarah Anne Chapple widow and William Edwin Pitfield Chapple solicitor Effects £4209 5s.” (Worth around £555,588 today.) In 1862, when Edwin was 37, he married Sarah Ann WAKELY , daughter of William WAKELY and Charlotte HARRIS , in Axminster. Baptized 15/9/1833 in Bridport, Sarah Ann died 28/11/1897 in Axminster, age 64. An entry in the National Probate Calendar reads: “CHAPPLE Sarah Anne of the "Shrubbery" Axminster Devonshire widow died 28 November 1897 Administration 25 November [1899] to William Edwin Pitfield Chapple solicitor Effects £133.” (Worth around £17,423 today.) They had the following children, all born Axminster: (1) William Edwin Pitfield , born 20/8/1863 and died 17/8/1927 in Seaton, age 63. An entry in the National Probate Calendar reads: “CHAPPLE William Edwin Pitfield of The Shrubbery Axminster Devonshire died 17 August 1927 at Seacot Sidmouth Street Seaton Devonshire Probate London 22 November to Charlotte Edwina Chapple and Julia Elizabeth Chapple spinsters and William Henry Bellamy solicitor. Effects £8079 3s. 3d.” (Worth around £498,475 today). William never married. Occupation: Solicitor of Trinity Square, Axminster. (2) Charlotte Edwina Pitfield , born 17/5/1865 and died 3/4/1957 in Honiton, age 91. An entry in the National Probate Calendar reads: “CHAPPLE Charlotte Edwina of Marlpits Hospital Honiton Devonshire spinster died 3 April 1957 Probate Exeter 15 April to Daniel Scott Rowe solicitor. Effects £84 13s 7d.” (Worth around £1,800 today.) (3) Julia Elizabeth , born 17/7/1868 and died 13/12/1944 in Axminster, age 76. An entry in the National Probate Calendar reads: “CHAPPLE Julia Elizabeth of The Shrubbery Axminster Devonshire died 13 December 1944 Probate Llandudno 1 May to Charlotte Edwina Chapple spinster and William Henry Bellamy solicitor.
