Alfred Charles Cochrane (1862-1958) British Army Service
Alfred’s service record provides the following information about his postings: Home 1/11/1881 - 29/1/1881. Malta 30/1/1885 - 29/1/1895. Straits Settlement 13/9/1885 - 10/3/1887. India 11/3/1887 - 23/1/1894. Home 24/1/1894 - 27/1/1894 (when he was discharged). His medical  on 1/11/1881 recorded that he was age 19 years 7 months; Height 5 feet 7 inches (1.7m); Weight 126 lbs (57kg); Chest 34 inches (0.86m); Brown eyes and dark brown hair. Alfred’s medical history records that he was treated for the following ailments: An abcess (1882). Syphilis (on four separate occasions in 1884). Alcoholism (1886). Ague (1890). (This is possibly a reference to Malaria.) Syphilis (Jan. 1891). Laryngitis (Feb. 1891). Contusion (accident off duty) Oct. 1891.
