This is page 3 of 4 tracing the descendants of Joshua Harris & Rebeckah MacQuire, originally of Harrold, Bedfordshire. Later generations lived in Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire & Northamptonshire. It shows the fourth generation link by marriage to the Jones family. There are two more Harris families in our tree, from Brenchley & Halling, Kent. As far as we know they are not connected. If you have a connection to any individual or family featured here, or if you want to leave us your feedback, contact us. Browse by following the numbered (e.g. [2]) or parental ([Parents]) links.

The Harris Family of Harrold, Bedfordshire

Fourth Generation (continued)

10Frederick George Harris 1854-1943.Link to census Frederick George HARRIS [Parents]. Born on 9/1/1854 in St Albans, Frederick George died there 7/12/1943, age 89. He was buried in Hatfield Road cemetery, St Albans. Occupation: Carpenter, cabinet maker. Click images to enlarge.

On 18/5/1882, when Frederick George was age 28, he married Esther Rose BURRIDGE, daughter of Harriett BURRIDGE, at St James Parish Church, Kennington, Surrey. Born quarter ending March 1856 in St Albans, Esther Rose was baptized 29/6/1862 at St Albans Abbey & died 31/1/1921 in St Albans, age 63. She was also buried in Hatfield Road cemetery, St Albans.

They had the following children:

(1) Arthur Frank [15]. (2) Sydney Thomas [16]. (3)Doris Esther Harris 1892-1968 Doris Esther, born on 1/8/1892 in St Albans. Doris Esther died 7/1/1968 in Peacehaven, Sussex, age 75. Cause of death certified as coronary thrombosis; Hypertension; Post influenza bronchitis. On 11/2/1922 when Doris Esther was 29, she married Herbert Henry JONES, son of Richard Williams JONES & Mary LILLYWHITE, in Holy Trinity Church, Penge, London. (4) Frederick [17].

11.Link to census William Frederick HARRIS [Parents]. Born quarter ending March 1856 in Thornton, Buckinghamshire, William died quarter ending December 1919 in Northampton, age 63. Occupation: Brickyard Labourer.

William married Sarah Ellen. No further details are known.

They had the following children:

(1) William John, born quarter ending March 1879 in Wellingborough. (2) Alice Rhoda, born quarter ending March 1883 in Wellingborough. (3) Florence Clara, born quarter ending March 1886 in Wellingborough. (4) Daisy, born quarter ending June 1891 in Northampton. (5) Elsie, born quarter ending June 1900 in Northampton.

There was also William Joseph BAKER, born 1890 in Northampton (All Saints), recorded in the 1891 & 1911 censuses as adopted. He does not appear by that name with the family in the 1901 census but there is a Jack Harris mentioned, born the same year. No birth or death record in Northamptonshire for Jack Harris can be traced. And in 1911 Sarah Ellen was recorded as having 5 children born alive to her which accounts for all listed above. An inference to draw is that, for reasons unknown, William was recorded as “Jack Harris” in the 1901 census.
