Fifth Generation
5. John BRADBURY [ Parents ]. Baptized 23/10/1825 in Marsden, John died 1872 in Saddleworth, age about 47. Occupation: Woollen Weaver. In 1849, when John was age 24, he married Sarah BENTLEY in Huddersfield. Sarah was born about 1825 in Saddleworth and died there 9/8/1902, age about 77. They had the following children, all born Saddleworth: (1) Ann , born 1850. (2) William [ 7 ] . (3) Martha , born about 1854. (4) Esther , born 1857 and died 27/11/1882 in Saddleworth, age 25. (5) James Radcliffe [ 8 ] . (6) John Edward , born 1863 and died 14/4/1914, age 50. In 1885, when John was age about 22, he married Clara Maria SIMPSON in Saddleworth. Clara was born about 1863 and died 31/8/1931 in Saddleworth, age 67. There is no evidence they had any children. (7) Wilson [ 9 ] . (8) Charles Frederick, born about 1863. 6. James BRADBURY [ Parents ]. Baptized 16/3/1829 in Marsden, it is not known when James died. There are two possibilities: 1891 in Saddleworth for a 62 year old James Bradbury or 1902 for a 73 year old James. On 6/1/1851, when James was age 21, he married Mary RHODES in St Chad, Saddleworth. Mary was baptized 18/5/1828 in the Parochial Chapelry, Saddleworth. Mary died 14/7/1919 in Shawhall Bank, Greenfield, Saddleworth, age 90. Cause of death certified as Senile Decay. They had the following children, all born Saddleworth: (1) Sarah Jane , born 17/8/1851 and baptized 28/9/1851 in St Chad, Saddleworth. She died in 1887 in Saddleworth, age 35. On 21/9/1874, when Sarah Jane was age 23, she married Henry SCHOFIELD (abt. 1853-?), son of John SCHOFIELD , in St Thomas, Friarmere, Saddleworth. (2) Samuel Radcliffe , born 15/10/1853 and baptized 25/12/1853 in St Chad. Samuel died 8/5/1928 in Dobcross, Saddleworth, age 74. On 7/7/1871, when Samuel was age 25, he married Esther Eliza DICKEN (1852-1920) in St Chad. They had no children. On 19/11/1921, when Samuel was age 68, he married his late brother's widow Esther Emma BRADBURY nee SYKES (1868-1951) in Manchester Cathedral. (3) John William , born 2/3/1856 and baptized 25/5/1856 in St Chad. John William died April 1874 in Saddleworth, age 18. He was buried 17/4/1874 in St Chad. (4) James Franklin [ 10 ] . (5) Joseph [ 11 ] . (6) Stanley [ 12 ] .
Sixth Generation
7. William BRADBURY [ Parents ]. Born about 1852 in Saddleworth, William died 14/2/1920 in Oldham, age 68. Occupation: House Joiner. An entry in the National Probate Calendar reads: “BRADBURY William of 101 Kelverlow Street Oldham joiner died 14 February 1920 Probate Manchester 15 March to Arthur William Bradbury ironmonger Ethel Shepherd (wife of Arthur Shepherd) Arnold Bradbury engine fitter and Harry Bradbury joiner. Effects £8006 13s. 1d.” (The equivalent of around £439,529 today.) In 1876, when William was age 24, he married Elizabeth WILKS in Saddleworth. Elizabeth was born 1852 in Bingley, Yorkshire.  It is not known when she died. They had the following children, all born Oldham, Lancashire: (1) Arthur William , born 1878. (2) John Wilks , born 1880. (3) Clara , born about 1882. (4) Ethel , born 1885. On 22/5/1918, when Ethel was age about 32, she married Arthur SHEPHERD (1886-?) in Oldham. (5) Arnold , born 1887. (6) Harry [ 13 ] . 8. James Radcliffe BRADBURY [ Parents ]. Born 1859 in Saddleworth, James died 2/12/1923 in Saddleworth, age 64. He was buried in St Thomas, Friarmere. Occupation: Woollen weaver. An entry in the National Probate Calendar reads: “BRADBURY James Radcliffe of Oldfield Delph Saddleworth Yorkshire died 2 December 1923 Probate Wakefield 10 January to Mary Jane Bradbury widow and Ernest Bradbury mill-hand. Effects £456 10s.” (The equivalent of around £24,670 today.) In 1882, when James was age 22, he married Mary Jane SAMUELS in Saddleworth. Mary was born about 1857 in Malin Lee, Shropshire, and died 8/8/1932 in Saddleworth, age 74. She was also buried in St Thomas, Friarmere. They had the following children: (1) Esther , born about 1882. (2) Frank , born 1883. Frank died 14/11/1916, age 32, in France during the Battle of the Somme. He was buried in the Warlencourt cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. (3) Ernest , born 1890. (4) Lena , born 1891. (5) Alice , born 1892 . (6) Dora, born 1894 . (7) Harry , born 1895. (8) Hilton , born 1897. Hilton died 4/2/1918 in France, age 21. He was buried in the Roclincourt cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
