4. Robert Edwin BRADBURY [Parents]. Born 1 Jan 1860 in Egmore, Madras and baptized 16 May 1860 in Vepery, Madras. Robert Edwin died 2 Jan 1911 in Madras, age given in burial record as 51 years 1 day. Cause of death given as Dropsy. Robert Edwin was buried 3 Jan 1911 in St George's Cathedral, Madras. Occupation: Inspector, Madras City Police.


On 11 Oct 1882, when Robert Edwin was age 38, he married Rachel HIGGINS (1862-31 Jul 1895), daughter of William & Ellen Jane HIGGINS, in Christ Church, Madras.


They had the following children:


(1) Ellen Catherine, born 1 Sep 1885 in Madras and baptized 14 Oct 1885 in Christ Church, Madras. Ellen Catherine died 19 Jul 1887 in Madras, age given in burial record as 1 year 10 months 19 days. Cause of death given as Fever. Ellen Catherine was buried 26 Jul 1887 in Washermanpettah Cemetery, Madras. (2) James Robert, born 12 Oct 1887 in Blacktown, Madras and baptized there 13 Nov 1887. It’s not known whether James Robert married or when he died. (3) Annie Mabel, born 9 Oct 1892 in Madras and baptized the same day in Christ Church, Madras. It’s not known when Annie Mabel died. On 7 Jun 1909, when Annie Mabel was age 16, she married her cousin Ernest Edwin BRADBURY, son of Charles BRADBURY & Annie Maria HIGGINS in, according to the certificate, the residence of the Bride’s father, Royapettah, Madras. (4) William Higgins, born 23 Jul 1895 in Madras and baptized in Christ Church, Madras 8 Aug 1895. William Higgins died 9 Aug 1895, age given in the burial record as 18 days. Cause of death given as Convulsions. William was buried 10 Aug 1895 in St George's Cathedral, Madras.


On  8 Jun 1898, when Robert Edwin was age 38, he married Mary Maud Cochrane SMITH (1880-7 Apr 1943), daughter of William Daniel SMITH, in St George's Cathedral, Madras.


They had the following children (all baptisms in St George’s Cathedral , Madras:


(1) Roxanna Alice Maud, born 28 Oct 1899 in Madras and baptized 23 Nov 1899. Roxanna died 16 Aug 1970, age 70, On 13 May 1918, when Roxanna was age 18, she married Elmer Fitzroy Lumsden SMITH (1888-?), son of William Daniel SMITH and her mother’s brother, in San Thome Cathedral, Madras. (2) Wilfred James, born 6 Jul 1901 in Madras and baptized 22 Jul 1901. Wilfred James died 17 Jul 1902, age given in burial record as 1 year 11 days. Cause of death given as Convulsions. Wilfred was buried 18 Jul 1902 in St George’s. (3) Edward William, born 13 Aug 1905 in Royapettah, Madras and baptized 26 Aug 1905. Edward died 7 Mar 1923 in Madras, age given in the burial record as 17. Cause of death given as Sarcoma. Edward was buried 8 Mar 1923 in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Madras. (4) Charles Claude, born 14 Oct 1907 in Royapettah, Madras and baptized 12 Nov 1907. Charles Claude died 13 Jul 1929 in Madras, age given in the burial record as 21. Cause of death given as Compound fracture of skull. Charles was buried 14 Jul 1929 in St George’s.
