The Burridge Family of St Albans, Hertfordshire

10. Thomas William BURRIDGE [ Parents ] . Born 1/1/1884 in Guildford, Surrey, Thomas William died 8/5/1944 in Atkinson Morley Hospital, Wimbledon, age 60. An entry in the National Probate Calendar reads: “BURRIDGE Thomas William of 36 Crampton Street Walworth London died 8 March 1944 at Atkinson Morley Hospital Wimbledon Surrey Administration Llandudno 24 March to Ada Edith Burridge widow and Edna Amelia Coldham (wife of William Joyce Coldham). Effects £2990 12s 2d.” (Worth around £162,112 today.) Occupation: Variously Labourer; Iron caulker; Master mantle manufacturer. On 4/8/1909, when Thomas William was age 25, he married Ada Edith CHALLIS , daughter of   Alfred William CHALLIS , a Stick mounter, in St Peter, Islington. Ada was born 16/9/1885 Islington and died 1956 in Southwark, age 70. They had the following children: (1) Dora Edith , born 1/6/1910 in Millbrook, Cornwall and died 28/1/1985 in Whitstable, Kent, age 74. On 27/10/1934, when Dora was age 24, she married Alfred Edward COOK (1912-1989) in St Paul, Southwark. It's assumed they divorced because in 1948, when Dora was age 38, she married Hew Hutchinson GREIG (1892- 1963) in Southwark. (2) Edna Amelia , born 1914 in St Germans, Cornwall and died December 2001 in Surrey, age 87. On 8/7/1933, when Edna was age 19, she married William Joyce COLDHAM (1908-1983) in St Paul, Southwark. (3) Stanley William , born 8/10/1921 in St Germans, Cornwall, and died 1998 in Surrey, age about 77. 11. Harry George BURRIDGE [ Parents ]. Born 18/12/1894 in Southwark, Harry George died 3/1/1976 in Greenwich, age 81. He was cremated on 6/2/1976 in Lewisham. An entry in the National Probate Calendar reads: “BURRIDGE Harry George of 470 Westhorne Avenue Eltham, London SE9 died 30 January 1976 Probate London 13 May £29448.” (Worth around £294,185 today.) Occupation: Insurance manager. Between 19/8/1917 and 28/2/1919, Harry served in the London Regiment, 1st City of London Battalion (Royal Fusiliers). On 5/10/1913, when Harry George was age 19, he married Ella Elizabeth BAKER , daughter of James William BAKER , a Manager, in All Souls Church, Newington, London. Ella Elizabeth was born 26/12/1894 in Southwark and died 1965 in Surrey, age 70. There’s no evidence they had any children or that the couple divorced. In 1939, when Harry George was age 44, he married Laura Kathleen BRONSDON in Lewisham. Laura Kathleen was born 13/6/1909 in Lewisham and died 12/3/1976 in Greenwich, age 66. They had two children who may still be living. 12. Albert Edward BURRIDGE [ Parents ]. Born 30/11/1883 in Holborn, London, and baptized 19/12/1883 in St Clement Danes, Westminster. Albert Edward died 3/4/1955 in Fairmile Hospital, Wallingford, Berkshire, age 71. An entry in the National Probate Calendar reads: “BURRIDGE Albert Edward of 31 Harveys Nurseries Caversham Reading died 3 April 1955 at Fairmile Hospital Wallingford Berkshire Administration Oxford 27 May to Florence Rose Burridge widow. Effects £3127 7s. 1d.” (Worth around £102,000 today.) Occupation: Stage carpenter (1905); Stage manager (1911); Cinema manager (1939). On 17/9/1905, when Albert Edward was age 21, he married Florence Rose RAYFIELD in St Saviour, Brixton Hill, London. Florence Rose was born 15/12/1884 in Lambeth and died 21/9/1973 in Bridport, Dorset, age 88. An entry in the National Probate Calendar reads: “BURRIDGE Florence Rose of 4 Slades Green Bridport Dorset died 21 September 1973 Probate Bristol 6 November £3739.” (Worth around £58,700 today.) They had the following children: (1) Albert Edward , born 8/6/1906, baptized 24/6/1906 in St Paul, Brixton and died later that month in Lambeth. (2) Arthur Ernest , born 1/5/1907 in Lambeth and died 6/12/1967 in Reading, age 60. An entry in the National Probate Calendar reads: “BURRIDGE Arthur Ernest of 41 Brockley Clo Tilehurst Reading died 6 December 1967 Administration Oxford 1 February [1968]. £1128.” (Worth around £25,000 today.) In 1940, when Arthur Ernest was age about 33, he married Irene Gladys Mary PAINTER (1912-2002) in Reading. They had one child who may still be living. (3) Dorothy Violet , born 14/3/1909 in Reading and died 9/2/1981 in Bothenhampton, Dorset, age 71. An entry in the National Probate Calendar reads: “BATTEN Dorothy Violet of 4 Slades Green Bothenhampton Bridport Dorset died 9 February 1981 Probate Bristol 23 March £10092. (Worth around £51,570 today.) In 1941, when Dorothy Violet was age 32, she married Benjamin Horace BATTEN (1900-1973) in Reading. There’s no evidence they had any children.
