85. Charles CHAPPLE [ Parents ]. Born 8/7/1853 in Beer, Devon, and baptized there 14/8/1853. Charles died 9/3/1917, age 63, and was buried in Beer Cemetery. On 2/3/1876, when Charles was age 22, he married Sarah Elizabeth BANBURY , daughter of Edward BANBURY , a Labourer, in Axminster Parish Church. Sarah Elizabeth was born 7/4/1853 in Beer and died 13/6/1905, age 52. She was buried in Beer Cemetery. They had the following children, all born and baptized in Seaton and Beer: (1) Claude John , born about February 1877 and baptized 5/3/1877. (2) Gertrude Helen , born about October 1878 and baptized 13/10/1878. (3) Arthur Edward , born about November 1880 and baptized 12/12/1880. (4) Irene May , born about July 1885 and baptized 12/7/1885. 86. Orinea CHAPPLE [ Parents ]. Born 25/3/1860 in Beer and baptized there on 15/4/1860. Orinea died 7/12/1900 at 3 William Street, Marylebone, London. Cause of death certified by E. W. Proctor MRCS as Pulmonary Tuberculosis and Haemoptysis. She was buried 12/12/1900 in St Marylebone Cemetery, London. In 1878, when Orinea was age about 18, she married Francis Osmint EBERS . Born 18/2/1860 in Kensington, his birth certificate gives father as Frederick EBERS and mother Sarah FRY . His marriage certificate gives father as Henry EBERS (deceased). The nature of Sarah Fry’s relationship with a Henry OSMINT (1813-1875) is not known but Francis’ middle name and the different birth and marriage entries hint that his father was Henry. Francis died 17/11/1900 in Marylebone Infirmary, age 40. Cause of death certified by J. Lunn FRCS as Phthisis (i.e. TB), meningitis. Occupation: Hot Water Fitter. They had the following children: (1) Orinea Osmint , born 29/7/1879 in Beer, Orinea died 25/10/1914 in Marylebone Infirmary, Kensington, age 35, reputedly after a fall down the cellar steps. Cause of death certified by J. A. Pindraw MD as (1) Cirrhosis of Liver; (2) Cardiac dilatation. On 28/1/1898, when Orinea was age 19, she married Albert DORRAN , son of Henry DORRAN , in Marylebone, London. Born about 1869, Albert died 29/3/1916 in Bermondsey, London, age 47. Cause of death certified by G. A. Paton LRCP as (1) Bronchitis; (2) Pneumonia. (2) Francis , born about 1882. (3) Percival Silas , born about 1883 in Marylebone. (4) Henry Osmond , born 1889 in Marylebone. (5) Ethel Beatrice , born about 1892 in Marylebone. 87. Silas CHAPPLE [ Parents ]. Born 1869 in Beer, Devon, Silas died 1924 in Pontypridd, Glamorgan, age 54. Occupation: Coal miner and hewer. In 1897, when Silas was about 27, he married Sarah CARTER in Pontypridd. Sarah died 1/12/1951 in Swansea, age about 73. Following Silas’ death Sarah married twice: to George VOWLES in 1924 and, following his death in 1934, Edwin Thomas DAY in 1936. Edwin was the father of Enid Day who married Silas’ son William James. They had the following children: (1) Margaret Ann , born 1898 in Treforest, Glamorgan. (2) Mary Elizabeth (known as Lizzie), born 1900 in Treforest. (3) Silas William James , born 1903 in Pontypridd and died there in 1905, age 2. (4) Charles Henry , born 1905 in Treforest. (5) William James , born 1908 in Treforest. (6) Florence , born 1913 in Pontypridd. (7) Grace , born 1919 in Pontypridd. 88. William CHAPPLE [ Parents ]. Born 18/11/1863 in Dorset Square, Marylebone, London, and baptized 17/10/1864 in St Marylebone. William died in 1926 in Axminster, age 62. Occupation: Fisherman. In 1884, when William was age about 21, he married Fanny Small HAIRS in Axminster. Born about 1863 in Seaton and Beer, Fanny died February 1894 in Beer, age 30, and was buried there 23/2/1894. They had the following child: (1) Thomas Henry [ 102 ] . In 1894, when William was age about 31, he married Bessie HORNER . Bessie was born about 1866 in Colyford. They had the following child: (1) Hilda May , born 1895 in Axminster. Hilda May died 17/10/1964 in Honiton, Devon, age 69. She never married. An entry in the National Probate Calendar reads: “CHAPPLE Hilda May of 7 Rose Cottages Beer Seaton Devon spinster died 17 October 1964 at Marlpits Hospital Honiton Devon Administration Winchester 9 December to Thomas Henry Chapple retired greengrocer. £251.” (The equivalent of around £5,000 today.)
