First Generation

 

1.  James COCHRANE. Born about 1783 in (according to the 1851 census) Gloucestershire. James died quarter ending December 1858 in Shoreditch, age about 75.

 

On 18 April 1811, when James was age about 28, he married Elizabeth WHITEHEAD in Christ Church, Greyfriars, Newgate, London. Elizabeth was born about 1786 in Middlesex and died quarter ending March 1856 in Stepney, age about 70.
 

They had the following children:

 

(1) Louisa, baptized 1/1/1814 at St Luke, Old Street, Finsbury. (2) William [2]. (3) James, born between 1821 and 1823.  (4) John [3].

Harriet, born 18/7/1827 and baptized 3/8/1844 at St John the Baptist, Shoreditch.

 

 

Second Generation

 

2.  William COCHRANE [Parents]. Born about 1818 in St Lukes, Middlesex.  This location was given as William’s birthplace in the 1851 census and is probably a reference to St Luke’s Parish, Old Street, Finsbury where his sister Louisa was baptized.  William died quarter ending March 1860 in Lambeth, age about 42.  Occupation: Furniture Broker.
 

In the quarter ending March 1843, when William was age about  24, he married Caroline Amelia PETRI, daughter of Thomas & Rebecca PETRI, in Shoreditch. Caroline was born 21/5/1820 in Shoeditch and was baptized 6/8/1820 at St Leonards, Shoreditch. It is not known when Caroline died.
 

They had the following children:

 

(1) Caroline Jane, born quarter ending June 1846 in Clerkenwell. (2) Eliza, born quarter ending June 1846 in Clerkenwell. (3) William [4]. (4) Emily, born quarter ending March 1853 in Lambeth. (5) Alfred John [5].
 

In the quarter ending September 1864, when Caroline was age 44, she married George WILLIAMS in Southwark.

 

3.  John COCHRANE [Parents]. Born about 1825 in St Lukes, Middlesex. This location was given as John’s birthplace in the 1851 census and is probably a reference to St Luke’s Parish, Old Street, Finsbury, where his sister Louisa was baptized.  Occupation: House decorator.


 

On 13/4/1846, when John was age about 21, he married Mary Ann WITPEN, daughter of Carsten WITPEN
and Mary POOLE.  Mary Ann was baptized 20/2/1825 at St Mary Whitechapel and died quarter ending March
1865 in Whitechapel.

 

They had the following children, all baptized at St John the Baptist, Shoreditch:

 

 

(1) Mary Ann, born 2/5/1846, baptized 21/6/1846. (2) Eliza, born 27/12/1847, baptized 16/1/1848. (3) Henry [6]. (4) Emily, born 29/12/1851 at 7 Bank Stock Buildings, Whitmore Road, Shoreditch and baptized 1/9/1852. On 19/2/1872, when Emily was age 20, she married George A. BAKER in the parish of St James the Great, Bethnal Green. Their daughter Emily, born 6/1/1872 in Shoreditch, married Charles Frederick CHAPPLE son of William Henry CHAPPLE and Catherine TIPPINS. (5) Charles, born 24/1/1854, baptized 15/2/1854. (6) Frederick, born 30/1/1856, baptized 30/4/1856.

Benjamin [7].  (8) Louisa, born 28/1/1860, baptized 22/2/1860.  (9) Clara, born 24/6/1861, baptized 17/7/1861.  (10) John [8].

 

 

 

Carsten Witpen and Mary Poole had the following children, all baptized St Mary Whitechapel:
(1) Sarah, Bp. 20/4/1817. (2) George, Bp.23/6/1822. (3) Mary Ann, Bp. 20/2/1825. (4) John, Bp. 22/4/1827. (5) Eliza, Bp. 8/2/1829. (6) Thomas, Bp. 1/1/1832.
