This is page five of five, covering a branch of the Parris family from the Offham, Plaxtol and Ightham areas of Kent. We think they are linked to the Parris families on the rest of this site but at the moment, we simply don’t know how! Thanks to Pat Sturrock for helping to fill some of the gaps from her research.

1. Robert PARRIS. Born about 1740 in Wrotham, Kent and died 7/5/1800 in Ightham, Kent.
On 14/10/1766, when Robert was age about 26, he married Mary LARGE in Plaxtol, Kent. Mary was born 1744 and 6/10/1814 in Ightham, Kent.
They had the following children, all born or baptized in Ightham, Kent:
i. George, born 31/8/1767 and baptized 6/9/1767.
ii. Mary, born 1768.
iii. Olave, born 17/3/1773 and baptized 28/3/1773.

v. Susannah, born 8/7/1777 and baptized 13/7/1777.
vi. John, born 19/1/1779 and baptized 31/1/1779.

viii. Ann, born 24/1/1783 and baptized 27/2/1783.
 2. Robert PARRIS [Parents]. Born 24/8/1775 and baptized 3/9/1775, both events in Ightham, Kent. Robert died 8/12/1853, age 78 and was buried 9/12/1855 in Plaxtol, Kent.
On 9/1/1804, when Robert was age 28, he married Rebecca WICKENDEN in Offham, Kent. Rebecca was born about 1778 in Wrotham, Kent and died 20/5/1866.
They had the following children:

3. William PARRIS [Parents]. Born 25/1/1781 and baptized 4/2/1781, both events in Ightham, Kent. William died 21/3/1867, age 86, and was buried 28/3/1867 in Offham, Kent.
On 12/2/1804, when William was age 23, he married Elizabeth HARMON in Stansted, Kent.
They had the following children, all events in Offham (unless it says otherwise):
i. Mary, baptized 3/10/1805 and died, age about 4, in 1809 (buried 9/11/1809).
ii. William, baptized 26/3/1807 and died, age about 2, in 1809 (buried 22/11/1809).

xi. Elizabeth, baptized 19/3/1826 and died, age about 75, 13/2/1901. On 17/11/1845, when Elizabeth was age 19, she married Thomas NORRIS in West Malling, Kent.

4. George PARRIS [Parents]. Baptized 4/9/1808 in Plaxtol, Kent, George died 25/2/1887 in Dartford, Kent, age 78. Occ: Ag Labourer.
On 28/6/1835, when George was age 26, he married Mary JONES in Ash, Kent. Mary was born 20/11/1814 in Sutton at Hone, Kent and died 5/6/1897, age 82.
They had the following children:
i. George, born about 1836.
ii. Thomas, born about 1841 in Sutton-at-Hone, Kent.
iii. Emma, born about 1843 in Ash-next-Ridley, Kent.

v. Alfred, born 18/3/1848 in Ash-next-Ridley, Kent and died 1/1/1932, age 84.

5. George PARRIS [Parents]. Baptized 8/5/1814 in Offham Kent and died 30/6/1897. Occ Ag Labourer.
On 22/11/1834, when George was age 20, he married Susanna BURNETT in Ash, Kent. Susanna was born about 1815 and died 18/12/1899 in Trosley, Kent.
They had the following children, all baptized in Trottiscliffe, Kent.:
i. James, baptized 14/4/1836 and died 17/4/1836.
ii. William, baptized 8/1/1837.

Entry in the England & Wales Criminal Registers for Kent. Thomas Parris age 23; Offence: “Carnally abusing an infant”. Date of trial 15/3/1841 at the County Assizes, found Not Guilty.

6. Thomas PARRIS [Parents]. Baptized 28/3/1819 in Offham, Kent. Thomas died 30/11/1884, age about 65.
On 21/11/1841, when Thomas was age about 22, he married Eliza Ann BARDEN in Offham, Kent.
They had the following children, all born in Offham, Kent:

James Parris was convicted of the murder of William Crouch, a six year old boy, whom he beat to death with an iron bar in a barn at Ryarsh on 11 June. He had committed the crime in a rage after the child's mother had failed to keep an appointment with him. After carrying out the murder he walked to the local police station and confessed. He was convicted at Maidstone Assizes on 10 July 1876 and sentenced to death. The sentence was carried out on the 1st August 1876 in Maidstone by William Marwood.

7. James PARRIS [Parents]. Baptized 17/6/1821 in Offham, Kent. Thomas died 1/7/1897,age 76. Occ Ag Labourer
In the quarter ending June 1845, when James was age about 23, he married Harriet NEVE.
They had the following children, all born and baptized in Offham, Kent:
i. Bertha, baptized 29/10/1848. Bertha died in November 1852 age 4 and was buried 21/11/1852.
ii. William, baptized 30/11/1851. William died 30/9/1852 age 10 months and was buried 10/10/1852.
iii. Mary Ann, baptized 21/5/1854.
iv. Emily, baptized 10/5/1857.
v. Frederick, baptized 17/6/1862. Frederick died April 1864 age 1 year, 10 months and was buried 14/4/1864.
vi. James, baptized 17/6/1862.
vii. Ernest William, baptized 19/8/1866.
8. William PARRIS [Parents]. Baptized 7/9/1845 at St Peter & St Paul Church, Ash-Next-Ridley, Kent. It is not known when William died but it was after 1901; he appears in that year’s census.
William married Emma TAYLOR, date not known. Emma was born 5/11/1850 in Horley, Surrey and died 24/12/1930 in Dartford, Kent, age 80.
They had the following children, all born in Dartford, Kent:
i. Ethel Adelaide, born quarter ending June 1876
ii. Mabel Emma, born about 1880
iii. Frederick William, born about 1881
iv. Percy Thomas, born quarter ending March 1884.
v. Elsie Fanny, born quarter ending September 1886.
vi. William George, born 2/6/1889. William George died 19/10/1950 in Luton, Bedfordshire, age 60. On 23/5/1912, when William George was age 22, he married Gladys Lillian SEWELL in Bexleyheath, Kent.
9. George PARRIS [Parents]. Born 25/12/1838 and baptized 8/1/1839 in Trottiscliffe, Kent. George died quarter ending June 1906 in Malling, Kent. Occ Ag Labourer.
On 24/7/1869, when George was age 30, he married Emily TOMKIN, daughter of William TOMKIN and Ruth LANGLEY, in Malling, Kent. Emily was born about 1840 in Ightham, Kent.
They had the following children:
i. George, baptized 16/10/1870 in Leybourne, Kent.
ii. William Friend, born quarter ending March 1872 in Leybourne, Kent.
iii. Clara Ruth, born quarter ending June 1877 in Wrotham, Kent.
iv. Albert Thomas, born quarter ending September 1882 in Wrotham, Kent.
10. Thomas PARRIS [Parents]. Born 27/1/1847 in Offham, Kent. Thomas died after 1901 - he appears in that year’s census. Occ: Ag Labourer.
On 22/8/1868, when Thomas was age 21, he married Eliza Mary Thirza ROOTS in Trottiscliffe Parish Church Kent. Eliza was born about 1847 in Trottiscliffe, Kent.
They had the following children, all events in Trottiscliffe (unless it says otherwise):
i. Annie Eliza, born 11/6/1869 and baptized 25/7/1869. Annie Eliza died age 1 and was buried 31/7/1870.
ii. Bertha Harriet, born 25/2/1871 and baptized 9/4/1871. On 27/7/1906, when Bertha was age 35, she married Thomas Walter STOCKLEY. Bertha Harriet died 9/7/1936, age 65.
iii. Thomas Henry, born 30/7/1873 and baptized 24/8/1873. Thomas Henry died in January 1874, age 5 months and was buried 4/1/1874.
iv. Charles John, born quarter ending March 1875.
v. Mildred Rose, born 2/9/1877 and baptized 28/10/1877.
vi. George, born 18/4/1880 in Addington, Kent and baptized 4/7/1880.
vii. Lilian Nellie, born 11/1/1883 in Addington, Kent and baptized 22/4/1883.
viii. Cecil Arthur, born quarter ending September 1880 in Addington, Kent.
ix. Winifred Emily, born quarter ending December 1888 in Addington, Kent.
x. Harry, born quarter ending March 1891 in Addington, Kent. Harry died quarter ending June 1896, age 5, also in Addington.
11. Robert Friend PARRIS [Parents]. Baptized 16/11/1856 in Trottiscliffe, Kent, Robert died in January 1936 in Malling, Kent, age 70. Occ: Ag Labourer.
On 3/6/1880, when Robert was age 24, he married Harriet VENISON in Malling, Kent. Harriet was born about 1855 in Meopham, Kent and died 19/8/1942.
They had the following children, all born Trottiscliffe, Kent:
i. Winifred Annie, born 10/7/1881 and baptized 21/8/1881.
ii. Constance Gertrude, born 25/11/1882 and baptized 31/12/1882. Constance Gertrude died 3/1/1973 age 90.
iii. Florence Kate, born 7/9/1884 and baptized 26/10/1884. Florence Kate died 10/4/1968 age 83.
iv. Leonard Friend, born 12 July 1887 and baptized 24/7/1887.
v. Wilfred Harry Ray, born 17/6/1889 and baptized 4/8/1889. Wilfred died in 1959, age about 70.
vi. Edward Venison, born 1/10/1892 and baptized 17/10/1892. Edward Venison died 20/10/1892.
