10. Stephen LUCHFORD [Parents] . Born 1831 in Kent, it is not known when Stephen died.
On 24/7/1853, when Stephen was age about 22, he married Sarah SOAL, who was born about 1830 in Boughton, Kent. It is not known when Sarah died.
They had the following children:
i. Charles [18]
ii. Maria.
iii. Mary Ann.
iv. Arthur.
v. Rose.
There does not seem to be any census entries for Stephen Luchford.
11. William John LUCHFORD [Parents]. Born 11/6/1846 in Rochester, Kent and baptized 25/7/1847, William John died 1923, age about 77, in Gravesend, Kent.
In the quarter ending June 1873, when William John was age about 26, he married Elizabeth Mary CURTIS in Poplar, Middlesex. Born about 1856 in Barking, Essex, Elizabeth Mary died 28/5/1909, age about 53, in Gravesend, Kent.
They had the following children:
i. Elizabeth Mary, born quarter ending March 1874 in Romford, Essex.
ii. John William, born 1876.
iii. Mary, born 1877.
iv. William, born 1878.
v. Arthur James, born 1880 and died 1/3/1904, both events in Gravesend, Kent.

12. Thomas James LUCHFORD [Parents]. Born 28/11/1851 in Rochester, Kent and baptized 19/3/1852. Thomas James died 22/1/1914 age 63. Occ Mariner.
In the quarter ending December 1878, when Thomas James was age about 26, he married Fanny Ann ALLARD in the Medway district, Kent. Born 1856 in Maidstone, Kent, Fanny Ann died 9/2/1890 in Strood, Kent.
They had the following children:
i. Annie, born 1880 in Strood, Kent and died 1965.
ii. Fanny Ann Elizabeth, born 19/9/1881 in Strood, Kent and died 26/12/1952 in Aylesford, Kent. Fanny Ann had a son John Aurelio Luchford, born 13/10/1908 in London and died July 1991 in Maidstone, Kent, age 82.
iii. John James, born 8/1/1882 in Strood, Kent.

On 6/10/1920 John James, a widower, arrived at Ellis Island, New York, USA on board the “Olympic” with his sons Leonard Thomas age 11 and Kenneth John age 10. The ship's Manifest states that John was going to join his sister Mrs Saxby (Annie Luchford), Box 158, Plymouth Connecticut. He did not intend to return home; the stay was permanent and he intended to become a US citizen. The Manifest states that John was not a “polygamist” or “anarchist” and had not been previously deported. Health said to be good; not "deformed or crippled". Height 5 feet 7 inches. Complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes blue. Identifying mark scar middle upper lip. Place of birth Strood, England.

13. Walter George LUCHFORD [Parents]. Born quarter ending September 1860 in Rochester, Kent, Walter George died quarter ending June 1893 in Strood, Kent, age 33.
In the quarter ending March 1893, when Walter George was age about 32, he married Alice Caroline WRAIGHT, daughter of Reuben WRAIGHT & Harriet Ann ROOTS, in Strood, Kent. Alice Caroline was born 1865 in Halling, Kent
They had the following child
i. Walter George R, born quarter ending September 1893 in Strood, Kent.
In quarter ending September 1900, when Alice Caroline was age about 35, she married John Samuel FORTH in Dover, Kent.
14. Alfred LUCHFORD [Parents]. Born 27/10/1860 in Rochester, Kent and baptized 18/11/1860 in St Margaret’s, Rochester. Alfred died 9/10/1937 in Strood, Kent. Occ: Mariner.
On 23/10/1882, when Alfred was age 21, he married Alice ARNOLD in Strood, Kent. Born 29/12/1864, Alice died 20/11/1947, both events in Strood. Kent.
They had the following children:
i. Alfred Stephen [21] (1883-1957)
ii. Alice Elizabeth, born 16/1/1885 in Rochester, Kent and died 1/8/1963.
15. George James LUCHFORD [Parents]. Born about 1868 and baptized 4/9/1868 in St Margaret’s Rochester, Kent. It is not known when George James died. Occupation Garrison Quartermaster Sergeant; served in India with the 1st East Lancashire Regiment.
In 1894, when George was age about 26, he married Helena Elizabeth HUNNISETT in Colaba, India. Helena Elizabeth was born quarter ending June 1875 in Chatham, Kent.
They had the following children:
i. Harry George Ernest , born 28/10/1894 in Lucknow, India and killed in action during WW1 on 2/12/1917, in the vicinity of Zonnebeke, Belgium when his Bristol F. 2b plane was shot down by Walter von Bülow-Bothkamp.
Captain Luchford was the holder of the Military Cross, serving in the Royal Flying Corps, 20th Squadron during WW1. Read details of his victories in the air between 13/6/1917 and 21/10/1917 at The Aerodrome. Harry is remembered at the Arras Flying Services Memorial. The memorial commemorates nearly 1,000 airmen of the Royal Naval Air Service, the Royal Flying Corps, and the Royal Air Force, either by attachment from other arms of the forces of the Commonwealth or by original enlistment, who were killed on the whole Western Front and who have no known grave.

15 October 1917: Records on page 2: "Royal Flying Corps. Mil. Wing. The undermentioned appts are made: Flight Comdrs - From Flying Officers and to be temp Capts whilst so empld: Temp Lt H G E Luchford, Gen List 11th Sept 1917"
27 October 1917: Records on page 3 the award of the Military Cross to "T/Lt. Harry George Ernest Luchford, Gen List, and RFC."
23 November 1917: records on page 3 the award of a bar to the Military Cross to "T/Capt Harry George Ernest Luchford, MC, Gen List and RFC (MC gazetted 27th October 1917)."
18 March 1918: Records on page 13 the award of the Military Cross to "T/Lt Harry George Ernest Luchford, Gen List and RFC. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has carried out a great deal of extremely useful work and has proved himself a capable and determined leader. On one occasion when on a photographic reconnaissance he and his observer shot down and destroyed two enemy scouts. He has destroyed five other hostile machines."
6 April 1918: Records on page 9 the award of a bar to the Military Cross to "T/Capt Harry George Ernest Luchford, Gen List and RFC. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When engaged on a patrol, he and his observer encountered about fifteen hostile aeroplanes, and shot one of them down in flames. Later, when engaged on a reconnaissance with three other machines, he encountered eight hostile aeroplanes and shot one of them down. On another occasion he destroyed one of three hostile scouts which were attacking one of our machines, and also shot down a hostile two-seater."

15 August 1916: Records on page 8 under Northumberland Fusiliers that cadet Cyril Gordon Luchford, from "Inns of Court OTC" ... "to be temp 2nd Lt. (on probation) 7 July 1916."
10 November 1916: Records on page 10 "War Office 11th November 1916. REGULAR FORCES. The undermentioned temp 2nd Lts. (attached) (unless otherwise stated) are transferred to Service Battalions, with seniority shown against their names: ..... North'd Fus. .....C G Luchford 7 July 1916."
19 February 1918: Records on page 7: "North'd Fus. Temp 2nd Lt C G Luchford to be temp Lt. 29 Oct 1917."
1 January 1919: Records on page 27 the award of the Military Cross to "Lt. Cyril Gordon Luchford, 14th Bn, North'd Fus."

16. William Thomas LUCHFORD [Parents]. Born quarter ending December 1863 in Halling, Kent and baptized 6/12/1863 in Halling, Kent. It is not known when he died. Occ Metropolitan Police Constable.
In the quarter ending March 1887, when William Thomas was age about 23, he married his cousin Eliza Elizabeth LUCHFORD, daughter of Charles LUCHFORD and Jemima MUDDLE, in Maidstone, Kent.
They had the following children, all born Bromley by Bow, London:
i. William Thomas, born quarter ending December 1888.
ii. Maud Elizabeth, born quarter ending March 1890.
iii. Mabel Florence, born quarter ending March 1892.
iv. Ivy Lilian, born quarter ending December 1893.

17. Horace John LUCHFORD [Parents]. Born quarter ending December 1876 in the North Aylesford district, Kent. Horace John died 27/10/1916, age about 40, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, USA. Occ: Lime Burner; Labourer.
In the quarter ending December 1896, when Horace John was age about 20, he married Clara ROOTS, daughter of William ROOTS and Hannah PARRIS. Born 1879 in Halling Kent, Clara died sometime after 1941 in Massachusetts, USA.
They had the following children:
i. Horace John, born quarter ending March 1897 in Strood district, Kent. Around 1919, when Horace John was age about 21, he married Beatrice, probably in Massachusetts, USA.
ii. Ida May, born quarter ending June 1899 in Strood district, Kent

Listed on the Manifest for the SS Franconia that sailed from Liverpool on 23/7/1912 bound for Boston, arriving 31/7/1912:
Luchford, Clara. Age 33. Female, married. Occ Housewife. Able to read and write. Nationality British. Race or People English. Last permanent residence Halling, England. Nearest relative or friend in Country "whence alien came" Sister Mrs W Gilbert, Essex Road, Lower Halling, Kent. Final destination Mass. Fitchburg. Clara was accompanied by Ida age 11 and Edith age 10.

18. Charles LUCHFORD [Parents]. Born about 1855 in Rochester, Kent. It is not known when Charles died. Occ Master Mariner.
In the quarter ending June 1876, when Charles awas age about 21, he married Mary Ann Isabella WHITE in the Medway district, Kent. Mary’s dates of birth and death are not known.
They had the following children:
i. Elizabeth Sarah, born quarter ending June 1878 in Rochester, Kent.
ii. Alice, born quarter ending December 1880 in Maidstone, Kent.
iii. Mary Ann, born quarter ending December 1887 in Maidstone, Kent.
iv. Emily Dorothy, born quarter ending September 1894 in Maidstone, Kent.
19. Charles Bazley LUCHFORD [Parents]. Born 2/7/1886 in Gravesend, Kent, Charles Bazley died 26/5/1970, age 83, also in Gravesend.
In 1908, when Charles Bazley was age about 22, he married Elizabeth Emily PAY in Gravesend, Kent. Born 29/2/1884 in Ashford, Kent, Elizabeth Emily died 27/1/1968, age 83, in Gravesend, Kent.
They had the following children:
i. Florence Regina, born 1908 in Gravesend, Kent and died, age about 72, 1970 in Welling, Kent.
ii. Annie, born 1913 in Gravesend, Kent and died age about 75.
iii. Albert Alfred, born July 1916 in Gravesend, Kent and baptized 26/7/1916 in St Peter & St Paul Church, Milton-next-Gravesend, Kent. Albert Alfred was killed in action died 18/8/1944 in France. See Albert Alfred’s citation in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Debt of Honour Register.

v. Dorothy, born 1/6/1922 and died, age about 72, in 1994, both events in Gravesend, Kent.

20. George Richard LUCHFORD [Parents]. Born quarter ending December 1887 in Gravesend, Kent and died in 1963, age about 76, also in Gravesend.
In the quarter ending September 1911, when George was age about 24, he married Sarah Frances COOK in Gravesend, Kent. Born quarter ending March 1890 in Woolwich, Kent, Sarah died in 1973, age about 83, in Gravesend, Kent. Sarah was known as Dorothy; that name appears on the children’s baptismal records in the parish registers of St Peter & St Paul, Milton-next-Gravesend, Kent.
They had the following children:
i. George Richard, born and died quarter ending June 1912 in Gravesend, Kent.
ii. Dorothy, born and died quarter ending September 1913 in Gravesend, Kent.
iii. George Leonard, born 11/10/1914 and baptized 4/11/1914 at St Peter & St Paul, Milton-next-Gravesend, Kent. George died September 1985 in Gravesend, Kent, age 70.
iv. Alfred Charles, born 7/2/1916 and baptized 19/7/1916 at St Peter & St Paul, Milton-next-Gravesend, Kent. Alfred died 2003, age about 87.
v. John Edward, born 18/12/1928 in Gravesend, Kent and died June 2000 in Brentwood, Essex, age 71.
vi. Ronald Gordon, born 2/3/1930 in Gravesend, Kent and died April 2005 in Lambeth, London, age 75.

21. Alfred Stephen LUCHFORD [Parents]. Born 26/5/1883 in Rochester, Kent. Alfred Stephen died 1957 in Southampton, Hampshire. Occ Mariner.
In the quarter ending December 1907, when Alfred Stephen was age 24, he married Elizabeth CONVOY in the Medway district, Kent. Elizabeth was born 15/4/1885 in Chatham, Kent and died 24/7/1915 in Strood, Kent.
They had the folowing children:
i. Frederick William, born 1908 in Strood, Kent.
ii. Alfred Ernest, born 14/7/1910 in Strood, Kent and died February 1989 in Chatham, Kent age 78.
iii. William, born 1912 in Strood, Kent.
iv. Arthur James, born 14/5/1914 in Strood, Kent and died November 2002 in New Forest, Hampshire, age 88.
